BEYOND THE BOTTLE

Bisquertt

Producer

Osvaldo Bisquertt and Soledad Urrutia established their namesake winery in 1978, playing a pivotal role in the development of the Colchagua Valley. In the early 2000s, their son Sebastián took over the reins, upholding the family’s commitment to sustainability, which has been recognized by the Wines of Chile organization. Andrea Gillet, Bisquertt's Head Oenologist, leverages her extensive experience from renowned wineries around the globe to craft terroir-driven wines sourced from heritage varieties, many of which come from century-old head-trained vines.

Region

Valle del Itata, located in southern Chile, is renowned for its historic winemaking traditions, dating back to the Spanish colonial era. This cool-climate region features granite and clay soils, ideal for cultivating unique grape varieties like País, which produces fresh, vibrant red wines, and Muscat, known for aromatic whites. The valley is also gaining recognition for modern varietals, including Syrah and Chardonnay.

Grape

While the name Moscatel can refer to any number of grape varieties in the broad Muscat family, in Chile, it generally references Muscat of Alexandria (Moscatel de Alejandría). The offspring of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, Muscat of Alexandria is more flamboyant and juicier in its bergamot and wild jasmine flavors. Muscat of Alexandria yields a full suite of wine styles, including sweet, bone-dry, sparkling, and fortified wines.
