A palate-coating and rich example of Georgiaβs signature red grape variety, this Saperavi seduces with its liqueur-like brambly flavors. Huckleberry, blackberry, and cassis notes harmonize with soft vanilla oak tones. A velvety, suave tannic structure gives further length to this cellar-worthy red wine.
Kebabs, khachapuri (Georgian cheese and egg bread), ajapsandali (Georgiaβs answer to ratatouille), charcuterie, hard cheeses, steak, hearty meals, brisk nights
With the fall of the Soviet Union, the Margvelashvili brothers were determined to resuscitate Tbilvino and the Georgian wine industry, whose national vineyard hectarage had shrunk nearly 40% in the 1980s. With a renewed focus on quality and Georgiaβs ancient viticultural roots, Zurab and George fully acquired the rest of Tbilvino in 1999. The winery today echoes the brothersβ respect for Georgiaβs oldest winegrowing traditions alongside their contemporary spirit. While dedicated to indigenous Georgian grape varieties like Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, and Saperavi, Tbilvino offers both traditional and modern examples of these wines.
Iβve probably bought 8 bottles now. This rose is decadent without being heavy and its notes of pomegranate and hibiscus truly transport you across time and place to the gardens of Babylon.
